The Political Candidate

An ode to politics. It is a dark picture with perhaps a silver lining.

The Political Candidate

Sometimes a drama unfolds

To show us who we are

Not just the nice and sunny parts

But the darkest depths of soul

It is confusing

We do not recognize this hue

Because it is a part of country

A part of me and you

Our nation has always

Had its violence and segregation

White males were the only ones with rights

And Native Americans just disappeared

Gradually we’ve made changes

Within certain ranges

Being careful

Not to go too fast

But in the back of mind and heart

There’s been a longing

To go back in time

When only white men were in charge

But, along comes a knight on a charger

Who embodies all that’s longed for

At last we see our darkest side

In living technicolor!

What shall we do?

This view he is holding up for us may clear the air so we can truly move toward a positive future. This is a time of much change. We have to see what is wrong before we can change it.

Bernie is Light to my perception.

The person I am describing is acting out many of of our ancient traits of separateness, selfishness and bigotry. He is holding up a mirror to us of these traits by his behavior.

Sometimes the changes we seek and the people who are destined to bring them, come in unexpected ways. This rider on a dark horse may completely transform our political process, causing us to drop much ancient baggage so we can move forward with more love and harmony.
