Recycling has come to our town

If we really make the effort,

To wash and dry and separate,

Each item on our list.

Plastic bags and wraps go to the market.

All other things to bins,

A mile away from where we live.

The precious stuff, 

Plastic and glass bottles,

Are traded in for cash.

......  CASH  ......

CASH IS INVOLVED IN EVERY STEP!

SOMEONE’S PROFIT MUST BE MADE!

We dropped our cash crop off one morning,

Early to avoid the lines,

Of hungry people,

With huge bags of glass and plastic bottles, 

All standing in the sun.

Some were there already,

Waiting for machines, 

That take things one by one.

We went to barrels which pay less,

But are more quickly done.

The sun was heating up the shed,

Where all the work was run.

A man was crashing bottles,

Perhaps his only fun.

People stuffed their plastic bags,

Into another barrel, 

When they were done.

For bags are not worth cash.

As we were leaving,

The man picked up the barrel,

With the bags,

And took them to the trash.

I stood and thought about the money,

That defined our every step,

About the roles we take,

And do we really care?

I thought about saving every scrap of plastic,

And how many months of this,

Would equal what just went,

Into the trash.

If only we recycled without these walls in place,

Then the heart of Gaia would surely show her face.

If every human, animal and plant, 

Can have just what they need,

Then we can work together and be free,

Not in compartments defined by money,

But, as One Heart and Soul.

The planet is drowning  in our own waste, with all of us humans with it, and plastic would be one

of the worst one. If the system had any brains we would have organic that is far better.  NZ
