A tool for life

Ho'oponopono (sometimes spelled Ho oponopono or Hooponopono) really is an incredible tool. And tool is probably the right word for it, because what ho'oponopono does most is help. Isn't that the definition of a tool? Something that helps?

What is it then that makes ho'oponopono (ho oponopono, hooponopono) so exceptional? The answer, in our opinion, is three things:

1. Ho'oponopono is extremely simple to do.

2. Despite its simplicity, ho'oponopono has very broad applications that become increasingly apparent the more a person uses and learns the technique.

3. Using ho'oponopono leads to profound results.

Two stages of ho'oponopono

Our belief is that the results from using ho'oponopono occur in two stages: what happens immediately, and what happens over time. The immediate response to using ho'oponopono (ho oponopono, hooponopono) is a sense of peace and physical relaxation. And when we say immediate, we mean it: almost as soon as someone starts using ho'oponopono, a personal sense of peace and physical relaxation kicks in. It's a terrific payoff, and using ho'oponopono would be well worth it if this was all the method provided. But it isn't.

Ho'oponopono stage two

The second result from using the ho'oponopono process, the what happens over time stage, is this: a person has their needs taken care of and is directed to what is perfect in life for him or her. This is hard for many if not most people to accept. It seems like fantasy or nonsense to believe that a person can be taken care of and brought to an ideal existence just by doing this simple process called ho'oponopono.

Our response to the cynicism is that ho'oponopono does what it does. No one has to believe anything about it: as a matter of fact, ho'oponopono (ho oponopono, hooponopono) works whether the person using it believes that the technique will work or not. What we ultimately suggest to people is to try ho'oponopono for themselves and then make up their own minds.

How to do ho'oponopono

How does a person use ho'oponopono? Say the following: I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you. Say this phrase silently to yourself, say it as often as possible and preferably say it all the time. Is silently saying 'I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you' all there is to ho'oponopono? No, it can go broader than that. Our experience is that as people use ho'oponopono, they seek more information about it and their application of the technique expands and they become better at it. But silently saying 'I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you' is ho'oponopono and it does work.

Expectations with ho'oponopono

One of the more important elements of using ho'oponopono, something we believe really needs to be emphasized, is having expectations for an outcome. For instance, a person engages the ho'oponopono method then sits back and says, 'Okay, now I want this particular thing to happen in my life.' Not the way ho'oponopono works. Using ho'oponopono is not the equivalent of ordering something from the universe. Engaging the ho'oponopono method is to erase, and to invite inspiration and guidance from the highest source.

When you use ho'oponopono, let go. Don't attempt to dictate. Don't attempt to direct. Let go of your ego expectations, and allow yourself to be carried down a gentle, loving stream. This is the proper way -- the only way -- to use ho'oponopono.

Questions come up

Why does ho'oponopono work? Can it be used more efficiently? Can it be tailored to specific situations? Can it be used to impact other people? These issues and others like them tend to arise over time as one uses ho'oponopono (ho oponopono, hooponopono) and there are resources available to address them. As we've said, ho'oponopono's applications typically grow the more a person uses the technique. But 'I love you, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you' is plenty to work with. Now get to it and start making things better -- for everyone!
