A Ceremony for the Holidays

Many of us find the traditional gathering around the holiday table is a thing of the past. I took a trip to a nearby city this year to see two separate family groups at their homes, and I am having two separate Christmas dinners at my home. Many of the family that I used to get together with have passed on and as I grow older, this will be more and more true. The big family gathering around the table becomes less possible each year. Here is a ceremony that I intend to do this year before the next gathering at my home.

I visualize the table with all of its dishes intact, as if for a large gathering. Three white candles are lit in the center of the table. I invite all of the members of my family, including those who have passed on. I invite the angels to be present also. I express my gratitude for my loving family and the beauty of the day and the setting. 

I thank them all for being there and assure them that they may leave any time they wish, whether after my ceremony or after the dinner. I wish them well wherever they are.

For me this will be a meditation ceremony. Though, It could  be mentioned in grace, said before the meal with a simple gratitude for the entire family. I think I may do this in my second family dinner at my home as it will seem normal to say grace.

May your Holiday be blessed with loving memories of extended family.

My hope is that it reaches across all dimensions, times and customs. Even though some of our loved ones change dimensions and humanity changes its customs of celebration, they are still warmly connected to our hearts.
