Elder's Meditation of the Day - May 9
"Without a sacred center, no one knows right from wrong."
---- Thomas Yellowtail, CROW
In the center of the circle is where the powers reside. These powers are called love, principle, justice, spirtual knowledge, life, forgiveness and truth. All these powers reside in the very center of the human being. We access these powers by being still, quieting the mind. If we get confused, emotionally upset, feel resentment, anger, or fear, the best thing we can do is pray to the Great Spirit and ask Him to remove the anger and resentment. By asking Him to remove these obstacles, we are automatically positioned in the sacred center. Only in this way do we know right from wrong.
Great Spirit, allow me this day to live in the sacred center.
O' Great Spirit,
Who's voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life, life to all the world, hear me!
I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every rock and leaf.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy which is myself.
Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So, when life fades as the falling sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
this video inspired a whole unexpected chapter in the next novel :) Sonja sweety if you have an email please send it i would love for you to read this one if i may send it to you - would love your opinion...
"...Grandmother the Earth. That power is here all the time. It is continuous, and nobody controls it."
--Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA
There are certain powers that the human being has no choice but to obey. We cannot negotiate or barter with this power. Our choice is either to conform or to live out of harmony. Whatever our choice, it will be the end result in our lives that we notice. So it is with the powers of the Earth which produce life. The Earth has the life force power. If anyone plants a seed, the seed will grow. The Earth treats everyone equally. The human cannot interfere, only obey. We should all show great respect for the Earth and Her powers.
Great Spirit, today, let me honor and respect the power of the Grandmother, the Earth.
hello sonja, cynthia, jean and the rest of the people here at the native american connection.
Here is the daily elder's meditation.
Elder's Meditation of the Day - May 19
"To be able to greet the sun with the sounds from all of Nature is a great blessing, and it helps us to remember Who is the real provider of all of our benefits."
--Thomas Yellowtail, CROW
The Elders say we should pray to the East every morning. Just try it! Get up early in the morning, watch the sun and listen to the morning sounds, the birds, the winds; smell the air, feel the breeze and the warmth of the sun. Your mind will expand and you will experience oneness with the Great Spirit. You'll realize who is really in charge. You'll realize interconnectedness. You'll realize how much the Creator loves you! Just try it!
Great Spirit, today, let me feel the Earth, the Father Sun and your presence.
I luv to wake up in the morning and take out the dog ...i breath in the air...smell the earth and the grass the scent of the roses and other plants in the air...the birds are singing squirrels are running and chirping...i look up at the sky ...see what the day mite bring..
sit on my swing and let it all become a part of me...
much love your way today :)
keep smilen and greet the day with anticipation!
Sorry everyone that last posting was not becoming of me. I do not anger often but these videos to me were like getting a slap in the face. Instead of retaliating as I did previously I did something productive, I sent out a later of protest to the White house.
You may use this letter as a template to print out and send to the White House or revise as you see fit.
Dear Mr. Obama:
I am very concerned about the fact that you have not yet done anything to ease the continuing plight of Native American people. If anyone has been treated worst then African Americans, I dare say it is the original inhabitants of this nation.
Since the founding of America Indians have been abused, chased off their land, raped, killed and forced to walk the Trail Of Tears. The poverty, misery and exploitation goes to this second.
The civil rights movement in African Americans their chance for equality in the Civil Rights act of 1964 assured this. Now is the time to do the same for my Native American brothers and sisters by lifting them up through your recognition with bold words and bolder, concrete deeds, like executive orders to cut red tape and bring health care and basic services and housing to those who need it; Sending legislative initiatives to improve the quality of life on the reservations on the Hill; a cleaning out and shakeup of the Bureau of Indian Affairs; and by making personal visits to the people on the poorest reservations to see how the poorest of the poor live.
I am Iroquois and I am proud of it and will be until the day it is time for me to join the ancestors. I am blessed that Great Spirit has watched over me.
I have always believed in you as an honest and ethical man of conscience. Thank you for hearing me out.
"...in Tunkashila, there is no time. Everything moves in the blink of an eye. It's as fast as thought. So there is no speed there. There is no time in between."
--Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA
There is a relationship between thought and reality. Every thought is alive, and as soon as you think it, a result occurs immediately. However, to make something happen it may take a series of one thousand thoughts before you can actually see it with your eyes. This occurs because the Laws of the Great Spirit act immediately. When you tell a lie, you immediately experience fear. When you tell the truth, you immediately experience freedom. To the Creator, there is no time. For us to experience the meaning of this requires us to act on faith. Faith is belief without evidence.
I have been giving some strong thoughts about moving back to the res as of late. I don't know what all I can do or not do, but I feel that at least I would be there if I am needed.
Even if it was just as the res babysitter like when I last lived there. It's been a lot of years though, and I am not certain if I would have to re-apply for status to live on the res.
Or maybe my heart softens in proportion to my brain getting looser as I get older.
I didn't know you lived at the reservation in the past ... if your heart is calling you to go there to be with your brothers and sisters when they are most in need of you, don't hestitate to follow the call of your heart! If it is however the PAST calling you, take your time to think it over again: What exactly is calling you? You have such a strong relationship to the spirit world and your guides, you will be given the answer if you just ask ;-)
I just found this and it younds like the perfect answer to your quest, Cindy ;-) Today's Angel Message
====================
My dear friends, we love you so very much.
Each one of you is a treasure to us, so special, so amazing that if you were to witness yourself through our eyes you would be driven to tears. The courage it took each and every one of you to come to this school called earth is hard to describe in human language. For a soul to leave it's home in heaven, there is commitment, dedication, a sense of adventure, a desire to learn more about love, and a great love of God. Each one of you wants others to see this light within you. Each one of you truly longs to see this light within other souls.
When you find yourself in times of challenge, sit quietly and ask the light of God within you to rise to the surface. Imagine a very great light in your heart, radiating outward in all directions. This light goes beyond your body, out into the universe, reaching out for solutions, touching those of like mind and like heart, seeking helpful individuals, and creating meaningful connections. This light is the truth of your being. Like sonar, this light will touch all those who can assist you and all those whom you can assist. In this light, you will find that you are never alone or without guidance. In this light you will discover that you are all truly one in God's love. In this space of truth, you will hear your own answers more clearly.
When you don't know what to do next in your lives dear friends, sit in this space of light radiating from your hearts and allow yourselves to feel God flowing into your heart and radiating outward towards all creation. Think of the solutions you desire, or the help you require and sit quietly for awhile, expectant like children. Allow the light time to work, to reach out, and to connect you with answers. Then get up, breathe deeply and go about your day trusting the help, answers, and connections you need will be made. Wait patiently and allow these to manifest in your physical world.
You are never without help, guidance, love, or direction when you allow yourself to sit in the truth of your being. The tools we share with you dear ones are simple. We are aware of your busy lives. And yet how much more productive it is to sit in this space of love and truth and wait for answers, than to frantically devise your own solutions. God is with you. God flows to you, in you, and through you. In this space, you are never, ever alone.
God bless you! We love you so very much.

Thank you for taking the time to write. I have heard
many personal accounts from individuals and families
across our country, and I appreciate your sharing your story
with me.
Each day, I read letters from Americans so that I
stay connected to their real-life and diverse experiences.
By working together and involving all Americans in
shaping the policies that affect us, we will build a brighter
future for ourselves and our Nation.
Thank you again for sharing your story with me. I
wish you all the best in the future.
Wow, sound as if he read your letter personally ;-) ... it's GREAT you wrote and got an answer, isn't it?! And it's great the more people write - but it really should be a PERSONAL letter! not just a copy .... I'll see what comes to my mind. As I am not American I have a different approach ... I cannot speak for "my" country if I talk about things concerning America - but I can of course talk as a member of HUMANITY ... so he sees that what he does CONCERNS people all around the world ;-)
Love and Light and BLESSINGS, Cindy, I think that this is exactly the way we will finally change the world: by SAYING what we have to say!
Hon who ever writes a letter doesn't have to write it like mine. I only meant for it to be a template for anyone who might not be certain about what to write. By all means write from your own mind and heart.
"We need to save those Elders who cannot speak for themselves -- the trees."
--Haida Gwaii, Traditional Circle of Elders
The trees are the Elders of the Earth. Go to the forest or to the mountains and find a young tree. Then find an old tree. Spend time with each. Sit by the young tree and listen to your thoughts. Then move to an old tree and listen to your thoughts again. Just being in the presence of an old tree, you will feel more calm. Your thoughts will contain wisdom and your answers will be deeper. Why is this so? These old trees know more, have heard more, and are the Elders of the Earth. We must ensure these trees live so we can learn from them.
My Creator, help me to protect the trees and listen to them.
Adapted from The Cherokee Herbal, by J.T. Garrett (Inner Traditions, 2003).
The definition of Indian “Medicine” reveals important things for our growth and healing as individuals and as a society.
Find out what the wisdom behind the concept of Indian Medicine offers us today.
The meaning of the term Medicine is much broader than “treatment,” “health,” “self-care,” or “prevention.” The traditional idea of Medicine is based on the earlier meanings of the four cardinal directions and the Universal Circle. When the sacred pipe was shared in the Four Directions in earlier years, each of the directions had its own prayer of thanks. I frame the meanings of the Four Directions as spiritual in the East, natural in the South, physical in the West, and mental in the North. These broad aspects help to describe the importance and the sacred influence of each of the directions in our lives. Everything exists within the Universal Circle of life, energy, influence, and relationship that makes up our Medicine. The phrases “Medicine bundle” or “Medicine bag” are ways of describing all that exists that influences or assists us in the circle of life.
In earlier Cherokee times the Medicine was based on formulas, and ceremony and rituals included the family, clan, and tribe. These Medicine formulas were traditional values that guided and helped the individual and family to find healing. A key in understanding Cherokee Indian Medicine is to accept that within our circle of life are influences and interferences that upset our balance and harmony as an individual and part of the family, clan, and tribe. Unlike the prevailing thought of today, the individual is not the center of the circle; he or she is an integral part of the circle. When a person fails, abuses drugs, or becomes diseased, it affects the entire circle of life. As an elder said, “Disease or illness affects all of us, not just the individual person.” The Medicine is to prevent such occurrences, or to bring that harmony and balance back to the circle. The formulas and remedies respect this harmony and balance for the benefit of all the circle.

--Thomas Yellowtail, CROW
Have you ever tried going through your day and carrying on a conversation with the Creator? Many of our Elders live in prayer. They talk to the Creator like the Creator is their best friend. It is easiest to do this if we pray in the morning and ask the Great Spirit to direct our thinking. When the Creator is involved in guiding our lives, we will have less stress, anxiety, and tension. Maybe this is something we would like to try today. "Oh, Creator, look at the Sun, how beautiful you have made it. Oh, look at this child, isn't she just beautiful! Well, Creator, I'm not sure how I should do this task, what do you think? This person is starting to irritate me; I need your help to redirect my thinking. Thanks for returning me to a peaceful mind." Remember, the Creator also has a sense of humor.
Grandfather, Grandmother, let me walk in prayer.

Rated "G" by the Author.
Misty dawn, lilac sky,
Weary spirits look up high.
Early morn, brand new day,
Rising sunlight brightens our way.
Misty dawn, lilac sky,
Each day your beauty maginified.
All the world is in its prime,
Each horizon yields a new springtime.
Misty dawn, lilac sky,
Puffy white clouds float on by.
Across the heavens eagles soar,
While far below the oceans roar.
Misty dawn, lilac sky,
All the earth must comply.
Amber light, coming sunshine,
Time to sing praises to the Divine.

THE WISDOM OF INDIAN MEDICINEAdapted from The Cherokee Herbal, by J.T. Garrett (Inner Traditions, 2003).

"Each day, whatever I am doing, I am always praying and thinking of God."
