See the Essence of Divinity in every person    

We get asked a lot about The First Intent where it says to refrain from opposing anyone. People seem to have a hard time wrapping their mind around the idea that it's possible to go through our days without opposing others. They say they can't imagine living without opposition, but we say that the human being is an inherently warm, trusting, affectionate type who has become colder due to the influence of outside forces. We are not naturally predisposed to be violent; it is something we were taught to do, and now we have to unlearn our violent ways by looking deeper into how they are really affecting us. 

Every judgment we make works against us. Every opposition we create boomerangs back to blindside us eventually, often in ways we least expect. Throughout these Bridge Reminders we have repeatedly talked about the idea that when we oppose someone we are becoming just like them. Perhaps we neglected, however, to also point out the complete and utter futility of our opposition.

Opposition always leaves us empty; it always leaves a mess behind for us to clean up. People suffer and die in its wake, never to fulfill the calling they set for themselves in this life. In truth, opposition never achieves its "suggested" result of making peace or providing the way for a better life for everyone. Quite the contrary, it only fans the fires of the other person's hatred and makes them want to retaliate. Said another way, opposing, in every instance, brings the exact opposite result from that which we truly desire. It's like deciding we're going to drive to the store in town, but turning the wrong way out of the driveway, and then wondering why we aren't getting where we want to go. It's a self-perpetuating dead end cycle, an exercise in futility. Opposition creates more opposition. It's the Law. 

So how do we stop the hatred and the war? There is only one way. Love. We can learn to love our enemies, and to give them the respect they deserve as fellow travelers who seek, just as we seek, to have a better life and to enjoy all the abundance that the Earth sets before us. We can ask them how we can help them instead of looking for ways to harm them. We can set a good example by withdrawing our swords immediately, whether they be the swords of war, or the swords of daily judgment toward our neighbors and co-workers. Then, and only then, will we feel what it's like to be at home on Planet Earth. Then, and only then, can we begin to get reacquainted with the rest of our Earthly family, the other eight billion souls who want only for the same comforts we do. Love is the only stance that will bring us home.

I Intend that I am doing whatever I have to do to love my enemies.
