Horoscope followers who believed themselves to be headstrong Taureans or hyper-efficient Virgos could be in for a shock after astronomers announced the 12-sign zodiac chart is off-kilter.

Stargazers from the Minnesota Planetarium Society (MPS) have revealed the alignment of the stars has been pushed out by about a month because of the moon’s gravitational pull on Earth.

This means that most of those born under the sign of Virgo are now Leos, and those born between November 29 and December 17 could belong to a new sign altogether.

But horoscope readers don't need to worry - Parke Kunkle from MPS stressed the change won't affect most astrology followers in the West.

This is because most astrologers in America and Europe use 'Tropical Astrology,' which is based on Earth's relationship with the Sun and the seasons.

It is a fixed system that uses a map created by early astrologers who laid out horoscopes against a first-millennium sky.

The alterations affect 'Sidereal Astrology', which is the Hindu system. This maps out the signs against the actual changing skies.

In a later interview, he added: ‘Astronomers have known about this since 130BC.

There are two major systems that control our zodiac signs - tropical astrology and sidereal astrology.

Tropical astrology is based on Earth's relationship with the Sun and the four seasons.

Tropical astrology is mainly practised in north America and Europe.

The alternative is Sidereal astrology which is the Hindu system and is also practised by some western astrologers.

It is based on Earth's relationship with the stars and therefore zodiac signs against the actual sky.

An adjustment is made for the 'precession of the vernal equinox'. This is the gradual shift in the orientation of Earth's axis of rotation, which traces out a cone once every 26,000 years.

Therefore the dates of the zodiac signs change.

'Hipparchus (a Greek astrologer of the Hellenistic era) was able to determine this would happen.’

Indeed astrologer Susan Miller told ABC news: ‘The constellations don’t suggest what’s coming up, it’s the planets.

'The constellations are a measuring device.’

CNN confirmed that if people ‘adhered to the tropical zodiac – which if they’re a Westerner, they probably did – absolutely nothing had changed for them.

‘That’s because the tropical zodiac – which is fixed to seasons, and which Western astrology adheres to – differs from the sidereal zodiac – which is fixed to constellations and is followed more in the East, and is the type of zodiac to which the Star Tribune article ultimately refers.’

Tarot.com astrologer Jeff Jawer clarified by explaining the fact that the sun isn’t aligned with the constellations at certain times of the year compared to millennia ago is ‘irrelevant for the tropical zodiac.’

He added: ‘Astrology is geocentric. It relates life on Earth to the Earth’s environment, and the seasons are the most dramatic effect, which is why we use the tropical zodiac.’

Ophiuchus is Greek for 'serpent-bearer'.

One legend says that Asclepius witnessed a snake reviving a dead snake with herbs. Zeus then killed Asclepius with a thunderbolt to prevent the knowledge from spreading, but out of honour for his life works, turned him into the constellation Ophiuchus

Signs of the zodiac are determined by the position of the sun on the day a person is born and the changes are a result of the Earth shifting from its original alignment 3,000 years ago, when the signs were assigned.

According to Live Science, the phenomenon is known as ‘precession’ and refers to the wobbling of Earth on its axis in a 25,800-year cycle.

The wobbling is caused by the ‘gravitational attraction of the Moon on Earth’s equatorial bulge’.

‘Over the past two-and-a-half millennia, this wobble has caused the intersection point between the celestial equator and the ecliptic to move west along the ecliptic by 36 degrees, or almost exactly one-tenth of the way around.

‘This means that the signs have slipped one-tenth – or almost one whole month – of the way around the sky to the west, relative to the stars beyond.’

Back in the middle 80's I first said that I strongly believe in astrology but not in astrologers. Later because of historical facts I now strong believe that the bible is pure Astro-theology based on the Zodiac - the Hebrew word Zod means the way.  90% of Astrologers only deal with one side of any picture because that's what bring the most money.  They never tell a person the true or they sugar coated with a "maybe" or an "if".  Now with the new dates for the Zodiac signs I wonder how astrologers are going to handle this. I have already read and hear many of them say that your signs is you signs.  But they stop their.   First, common sense will tell you knowing stays the same. All things change.   Now this is what I believe and Sonja please share this with everyone.   And this is in general.  Because things do change in stead of everyone having one astrological chart they will now need to have two. Yes two.  When I say everyone I mean only the people that were born years ago.   The first chart is the one when you were born.  The second one will be a chart on how the new position of the planets effect you today. When you have this two charts then you need to find a middle ground.  In the year 2111, one hundred years from now when everyone that is alive today is dead then only one chart will be necessary. The one that shows how the planets are today.   Like I said this is just general but it is the concept that will need to be taken to get a right writing on how the planets are effect you today.    I would love to hear from other members.  What do you think?  God Bless. I think it's not that easy ... it all depends on whether you wand a heliocentric or a geocentric reading - LOL! As I'm no astrologer I can only repeat what has already been explained above, so I refrain from sharing this article with all the members of lightgrid, as I'm not quite sure about the real impact. But it is good ground for communication and thinking!

 

I for my part like the Medicine Wheel conception of astrology a lot. It says that yu are to move through all the signs throughout your lifetime to integrate all the various aspects of life and being - and this is what I resonate with most!

 

Astrologers also say that in the course of our life time, be tend to take on the charecteristics of our ascendent rather than stay with our sun sign ... this implies at least a bit of movement and I like this! But then there are all the other aspects in the various houses which give us the possibility to come to know pretty much of the zodiac - and once we know these, we can turn to those aspects which are left out in our chart - LOL!

 

This is the way I like it - integrate it all - hahaha!

Axial Shift Creating A New Zodiac

Astronomers with the Minnesota Planetarium Society have annouced an axial change of the earth, which dropped a bomb on the zodiac, noting that thanks to the millennia-long effect of the moon's gravitational pull on the Earth, there's about a one-month bump in the alignment of the stars, as a result of the shift.

The Internet is abuzz after an astronomical society report that due to the earth wobbling on its axis, constellation angles  have shifted in the sky. This shift, they say, could lead the signs of the Zodiac to be off by about a month.Most astrologers do not accept  this 'new discovery' saying Western astrology is static through the seasons.

According to the Minnesota Planetarium Society, here is where the new adjustment of the Zodiac should fall.

  Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
  Pisces: March 11-April 18.

Thank you CIndy. I find horoscopes playfully helpful at times. Could it be that sometimes these thing happen to allow us to open to new self definitions of ourselves?

Perhaps exploring the newly dated "assignments" can help us to consider an acceptance of different understandings, of who we are. Actually, we are all so much more than any verbal or physically comprehension. Astrology can allow us to explore time, the cosmos and our, present life, representation of these connections.

In a nut shell...it's all okay ;-)... As we grow and explore...it can all be okay

I was shown to be a Gemini and I now, I guess, would be a Taurus. So I'm exploring strength, clarity and firm discernment; using the positive energies that the cosmos is representing of that astrological sign, to amplify my positive, already existing, traits.

Just a thought... Being playfully constructive, with all of our changes, can freely allow to accept what is most useful and release anything that not longer resonates.

Thank you for sharing your post and however we choose to be, live and play, is all okay, in the grandest scheme of things. We must each decide what best suits who we are, and are choosing to be, at every given moment...the ripples are changing the world :-)
When some news or information is really bothersome us, perhaps it is wise to meditate on its validity and or meaning/message to us; there are often many layers to be learned from: calls to action, discernment, compassion, calls to share, cause for reflection/meditation...the list goes on and on. Life can hold such gifts :-))
