The Deep Meaning of Winter

 

For most of us in the northern hemisphere, we have seen the leaves fall, the skies turn to grey and the temperatures drop. Last night I had a dream the world was covered in ice and snow. At first I panicked and tried to run from the descending ice, but then, as I looked ahead, I could see there was infinite space, we were all still here and we had come up with good solutions for the new landscape.

As winter has softly blown in, I have thought to myself, “Where should I go to avoid the cold and grey?” After much inner and outer discussion, the answer was clear: I wanted to go deeper into myself, deeper into all that had been created in this last year, and deeper into life. I decided to accept winter’s invitation.

When the outer world is less than optimal, our inner world gets activated. The mysteries come alive, our soul speaks, our higher selves lead, and the sparkle in every snowflake is ignited in our being.

This process can be tough. The powerful and creative energies of autumn have a hard time shifting gears, and yet this is exactly what is being asked of us.

A few weeks ago, I was channeling with one of my colleagues, Samantha Ibarguen. We wanted to know why so many spiritual people (including myself) have a hard time settling down, why there was that constant desire to explore, travel, and expand into bliss. Why was the answer always “out there somewhere?”

The guides replied, “When an expansion of energy is experienced, a deeper level of maturity is then asked of the individual. This maturity is accomplished by grounding the expanded energy into the lower chakras, and into the Earth. The first reaction for one who has recently expanded their energy in accomplishment, or in an addition to the family unit, or in any rite of passage, is a kind of energetic fight or flight, because it is a lot for the body to digest and metabolize so much energy. It takes patience, as it is a completely different frequency, requiring the fast moving spiritual person to slow down into their own body, and into their humanity.

“As the lower chakras are activated with the spiritual energies, a more profound and present human experience is created, the deeper human desires are activated, such as career building, sensuality, attendance to family, or the quiet company of nature, the roots of your being grow further into the Earth, and consequently the branches grow taller. (If you are particularly up in your 7th chakra, or have too much unhealed trauma in your lower chakra areas, this could be particularly difficult.)

“The spiritual person, who is most comfortable in the upper chakras by nature, takes flight for a familiar experience as much as a new experience. The responsibilities of adulthood, of building, can be avoided with the constant call of ‘spirit.’ And yet the true adult welcomes such responsibilities as spiritual growth, and takes on the role of builder of culture and society, as parent, as mentor, as a necessary part of humanity. The panic associated with fight or flight transforms into purpose. Sometimes this further expansion into travel, change and exploration is appropriate and needed, and sometimes the true rite of passage into the next level of your life will require the deepening.”

This sounded suspiciously like growing up. The expansive spiritual energies are so very alluring. When out of balance there is the illusion to chase it for success, for love, or for ourselves. There are still tons of new places we could go to be activated, or meet someone, or maybe that’s where we’re supposed to live…but tending to the grass in our own yards brings a different sense of freedom and purpose. Sometimes we don't even know the life we have is the life we want until we really start to nurture it and take it in. Of course, wherever you are on your path is perfect, even if you are spending your 2012 doing a world tour!

My personal wish for 2012, after all of the good work we light and love workers have done to get to this point, is to let the spiritual merge with the physical to create a grounded and embodied approach to our humanity. To bring all of our higher knowledge deep into our lives. In this way we can be present for our families, our planet, our work and our communities. We can travel to new places without losing the focus of our inner being, or the goodness we have created at Home. We can be in communion with our higher selves, God and guides as we cherish our earthly time.

Some Help for your New Year's  Resolutions   Actively receiving and creating your desires is one of the core teachings at Treadway Esoteric, and something we will continually address throughout the year.   Where in your life do you have great longings but are somehow blocked or afraid? Facing your fear begins with acknowledging your fear. The fear could simply be, “I’m afraid it wont happen.” One of the areas I notice most with clients is that they lack the self confidence to move forward in the face of fear. Or they want to find that big block and release it in a huge explosion that changes their life forever, so they will never have to face it again. I find true change and success happens in degrees, sometimes annoyingly small ones. It is in the action of moving forward which allows the blocks show themselves and release, one by one in a manageable way. It may not always be pretty or easy, and trust me I grapple with my fears like everyone else, but it is your commitment to facing them both through meditation/personal process work and through action that changes your life and opens the pathway to your desires.   1. Set your intention for your longing. Ex: “ I am recording my album this year.”   2. Sit and feel the fear. Sink your consciousness into the place in your body where you feel the fear or disbelief. Find the fear or belief that has a lot of charge for you such as “If I let my guard down I will be attacked.” Breathe. Do not try to change or seek an answer, simply breathe your consciousness into the feeling without expectation. If feelings come up, feel them, but do not attach to them. Allow them to pass through. If you don't find a belief that is fine. Just feel.   3. Open your body to the Love of God/Goddess/Universe. Feel the love of the Divine be breathing into you, hearing your call and enjoy this feeling! Creator wants your dreams to come true. Divine assistance will work with you, but you must activate that power by asking and opening to it.   4. Thank yourself and go on with your day. Let go of expectations and allow the universe to begin working.   5. Take a step to actualize your desire. When you start to take the steps to actualize your longing, see if that same uncomfortable feeling comes up. Here are some signs that you are hitting your fear but not realizing it: CONFUSION! OVERWHELM! DOUBT! EXCUSES! DISTRACTION! Repeat steps 1-3 and then continue with the project anyway. Be as gentle as you are brave. The Universe will meet you in your efforts. Realizations, healing and opportunity will arrive as needed.   Each time you confront your fear, acknowledge it and move forward anyway, you are healing it, you are that much closer to your desire, you are becoming your desire. When you bring the Divine into the picture, then you are working co-creationally with the forces of the Universe for a more supported experience. Good luck, and remember to take the path at your pace, there is no rush!
