The best way for me to tell you who I am is by showing you my artist statement. ARTIST STATEMENT
I have something to say and I want to be heard. I have something to say and I want to be remembered. I have something to say but out of fear I will never speak it. I’d rather show people what I mean to say, than say something I didn’t mean. The fine arts are my art of communication.
When people look at my art I want the communication process to begin. In communication there is often times struggle in exchange. I can’t explain what pulls me through the struggle of art. I find the accomplishment in my struggle and release to whatever the art becomes. This is my submission of control to God’s purpose in the art. Whatever he is wanting to communicate. What I mean by this is I want to help communicate to others what is inspiring the creation of my art. I want my focus to be from God’s work in my life.
Art is a process of communication between the creator and viewer. It first begins with the Creator and the vision we wish to communicate. Art without a purpose of communication does not appeal to me. If the art does not have an initial vision it will lack in direction. Each piece I start has a vision, but absolutely no direction. I leave the direction up to God. My job is to allow space for that direction.
My artwork is my reaction to this life. There is nothing more important to me than what God wants people to hear, I believe he has given me a will and ability to create. With this I have a responsibility to remain faithful to him through the gift he has given me. I must remember that this ability is not my own but better yet an expression of my spiritual growth towards a closer relationship in him.
My goal is not to make others see what I want them to but rather for them to see what we need or are in search of. I want to make art with a purpose.
This is my last and first chance to leave this world with a visual of the possibilities God gives us in this life. This Life is the perfect opportunity to pursue art with a purpose.
