"You are building the Net of Light," the Grandmothers said, "building it each time you use it. Building it for yourself and for everything that lives. The Net of Light provides the framework or skeleton for the entire body of life. It's getting thicker now," they said, "stronger and more closely woven. Without this structure, human beings flail about in space, floating aimlessly, seeking ground under their feet, reaching for something to hold onto."
As the Grandmothers spoke, I watched people bumping and bobbing through the atmosphere, grasping at things, reaching out to one another, even grabbing at the air, trying to latch on to something. Immediately I noticed how many more men than women were doing this ... desperately grabbing hold of something, anything. "By nature, men are not as grounded as women," the Grandmothers said," so they need your help. Because of woman's intrinsic connection to the Net of Light, you are naturally more anchored and linked to one another. However, when anyone (woman or man) links with the Net of Light, they are immediately held safe and secure.
"We have told you many times that woman is the one who must do this work," the Grandmothers said.
"You must lead the way--drawing humanity together into the Net of Light. Woman must do this because she can do it, do it because she is already connected to the Fabric of Life. Women were born at one
with the Mother, born at one
with She who provides this fabric of Being. You are already one with Her. You came in this way!
Like Grandmother Spider of Native American lore," they laughed,
"you spin the threads of the Fabric of Being into being."
Then they smiled. "We," they gestured, including us with them, "are She.
"This Net of support will link all life together," they said. "The Net of Light calls you into family ... brings you back into oneness. This work with the Net of Light was ordained to take place now. So weave, women, weave," the Grandmothers said. "Embrace and connect with one another and while you are doing this, remember that We, the Great Council of the Grandmothers, are holding you steady. We will supply you with everything you need to perform this task.
"Work on!" they cried. "Weave and connect. Weave and connect!"
